David Byrne, Playing the Building The artist transforms the interior of the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan into a massive sound sculpture where all visitors are invited to sit and play. The retrofitted organ controls numerous devices attached to such structural elements as metal beams, plumbing, electrical conduits, heating and water pipes, etc. Through vibrations the structural elements produce unique and characteristic sounds.
